Caroline Boudreaux is a social entrepreneur and the Founder of Miracle Foundation. Read her words below on the three most important things we all need, that money can’t buy.
I’ve had the privilege of traveling and meeting people from all different walks of life. And, I’ve read countless books on spirituality, love, religion, philanthropy and life. One of those books was “The Soul of Money” by Lynne Twist. In her book, she talks about three things we all want:
1. To love and be loved
2. To have families that are healthy, happy, and taken care of
3. To make a differenceNow, here’s the really interesting part. As important as all three of those are, no amount of money can get us any one of those things. For years, I put my ladder on the wrong tree and went for the money. See, there’s no top to the ladder to success. There will always be someone who has more. But there absolutely is a bottom. And that’s the poor. The lonely. The hurting. The suffering. That’s the grounding we all have. Our base. If we want to make a difference, we go to the bottom because that’s the best place to relieve suffering. To do so takes money. And I’m here to tell you, it’s money I never miss.
After spending some time with children who were longing for a parent to love them, I knew I couldn’t un-see some of the pain and suffering I’d witnessed. In response, I called the founder of a local Austin nonprofit and told him, “I HAVE to help these kids.” He asked me to tell him about my conversion. He then asked, “What do you think we do?” I said, “We feed homeless people.” He said, “No. What we do is enable 9,000 volunteers a year to feed the poor and serve their God-shaped hole. We enable them to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ. What we do, we do for the volunteers.” He explained that my job was to get the spiritually hungry to care for the physically hungry. When we do that, everyone is fed equally. It’s a lesson I’ve never forgotten.
We see the same story every day: People trying to fill their lives with things money can buy. I can tell you from first-hand experience that that pursuit is never fulfilling. It doesn’t lead to contentment or peace—it only leads to more stuff. As a remedy, Miracle Foundation is here to partner the ‘haves’ and the ‘have nots,’ because that’s when miracles happen.
I know you want to make a difference. You’re designed for it. We’re so lucky to be the givers, and I invite you to help us help these children!
The best part? There’s no doubt whether it works. We’ve gotten hundreds in college and thousands of children who are thriving, back with their families and loved. So, the question is: are you playing a big enough game?
Are you wanting to make a difference? The time is now. The need is urgent. If you stretch yourself, I promise you everything that money can’t buy: Fulfillment, contentment, and joy unspeakable. Do something today that your future self will thank you for.
With love,
Caroline
